Beauty Lives in the Details, why the right fastener head was critical for me.

A seemingly minor specification, the profile, finish, and placement of fasteners, held the power to either elevate or compromise the entire installation. Visible fastener heads with improper finish would create visual interruption across seamless panels. Incorrect head types risked damaging delicate materials or creating unsightly depressions. Poor corrosion resistance could lead to staining and degradation over time, undermining both aesthetics and structural integrity.

As Technical Project Architect at MAD, serving as AOR, I led construction administration for this elegant 700-square-foot penthouse renovation in New York City. My focus was ensuring flawless execution of contract documents and maintaining unwavering design integrity throughout the construction phase.

Working closely with the project team and contractors, I provided technical leadership for the renovation’s signature elements: a custom paneled wall system, architectural staircase, and threaded rod wall installation. In this intimate luxury setting, every detail demanded precision—I conducted thorough site observations, reviewed submittals and shop drawings, and coordinated resolutions to ensure that execution matched specifications exactly.

Oversight extended to critical connection details including railing terminations at top and bottom conditions, wall base profile selections, panel joinery systems, and fastener specifications. In a compact penthouse where every surface is visible and every detail scrutinized, my technical direction ensured that nothing was overlooked—from material transitions to installation sequences to finish quality.

The result was a seamlessly executed project where meticulous attention to detail and rigorous construction administration delivered the refined elegance the design demanded.
